Positioning Timboon and Simpson for the Future

Did you spend your weekend dreaming of a holiday outside your 5km radius of life? Did it include a visit to an iconic natural wonder or the Great Ocean Road? Or cycling a rail trail past farmgate tastings of cheese, fudge, olives, berries, chocolate, craft beer, a distillery and ice creamery?

If yes to any or all of the above, google Timboon and Simpson in western Victoria.

Recent development in the Great Ocean Road Region (GORR) has highlighted its limited capacity to sustain growth due to environmental sensitivity and a dynamic and fragile coastline.

As a result, the role of the land and towns between the coast and Princes Highway - ‘the hinterland’ - will play a key future role in settlement planning for the GORR. It is within this hinterland that Timboon and Simpson are located.

Corangamite Shire has engaged Echelon Planning to prepare a Positioning Plan for Timboon and Simpson, as well as a Structure Plan for Simpson. The Draft Plan is currently on exhibition and identifies the capacity of the towns to cater and leverage from growth in regional tourism and the visitor economy. It also outlines how the towns can a provide a supply of affordable and lifestyle housing for key workers in the tourism, agriculture and large energy projects industries.
